The World's Most Dangerous Road

The World's Most Dangerous Road

In 1995 the Inter American Development Bank called the road from Coroico to La Paz the most dangerous road in the world. The road drops from 4860m at Apacheta Chucura Pass down to 1750m at Coroico. For most of the 60 kilometres the road is no more than a winding 3 meters wide single-lane track carved out of the side of a mountain. But what makes this road so dangerous are not only the extreme drop-offs, but the high traffic as it is a major route for trucks and buses.
